Review:

I can't go by without a brief mention of The Housekeeper by Melanie Wallace (MacAdam/Cage, 2006)This is single handedly the most tragic book I have ever readI couldn't put it downTeenage runaway Jamie Hall is working as a housekeeper for Margaret, a retired photographer who leaves behind a pictorial chronicle of the mountain-and-valley watershed area they live in. The ancient postmaster lives for his memories of Jamie's grandmotherGalen, an ex-con who falls in love with Jamie, finds himself threatened by a murderous poacherAt the center of the story is a wild boy tied to a treeWhen Jamie sets him free, she unwittingly unleashes a force of evel that will haunt her for the rest of her life. Enough said.
