Review:

The Gendarme is the story of a 92 year old man at the end of life who begins having dreams about a past erased from memory due to injuries sustained while serving in WWI.

Emmett Con dreams he is a Gendarme who has been ordered to escort Armenians out of Turkey. The march is long and brutal, and once Emmett locks eyes with a young Armenian woman he becomes captivated by her unique and mysterious beauty. The book alternates between Turkey during the early twentieth century and America in the 1990s. Emmett is determined to find Arexie and beg for her forgiveness.
