Review:

As we have come to expect from her, Alice Hoffman [one of my personal all-time favorites] has delivered yet another fine dose of magical realism.  One could look at this book as a work of historical fiction covering three hundred years in small town America.  Rife with passion and dark secrets our story is generously draped with vivid characters; from the young English town founder[a woman] and her surreal relationship with a black bear; to a poet who falls in love with a blind man, to a mysterious drifter who arrives the year that summer never did.  At the center of this inventive array is a special garden where only red plants grow but redemption can be sought for those brave enough to face their fate.  Another beautiful piece of work by Hoffman.
